The event program is divided into two seminar sessions. The first session examines the development of the landscape architecture field in Finland from its early days to the present. The second session looks to the future and addresses current trends and developments. The second session, featuring international keynote speeches, will be held in English. The first session will be spoken in Finnish. The seminar program consists of presentations and panel discussions. The day will culminate in an celebratory dinner party.

Morning Segment

The morning segment, which focuses on the history and development of Finnish landscape architecture, will be conducted in Finnish. Through personal and professional perspectives, as well as the experiences of different generations, the session will highlight how perceptions of landscape have changed and how they continue to evolve.

Afternoon Segment

In the afternoon, we’ll switch to an English-language program and turn our attention to the present and the future—what’s next? What are the current ideals of landscape architecture, how do they guide thought and practice, in what direction are they taking the field, and what might be left without attention?

To wrap up the day, we’ll hold a discussion with the afternoon’s keynote speakers—Lisa Diedrich, Peter Veenstra, and Bjørn Ginman. The discussion will be moderated by Elina Kataja, MASU Planning.

Peter Veenstra, LOLA Landscape Architects

Peter Veenstra is a landscape architect and founding partner of LOLA Landscape Architects. LOLA (LOst LAndscapes) is an international design and research practice known for redefining the role of landscape architecture in addressing climate change, urbanization, and biodiversity loss, aiming for a future that is both sustainable and culturally inspiring. Peter’s presentation in the second seminar session of Landscape Architecture Day will address the impacts of artificial intelligence on landscape architecture and industry practices.

Prof. Dr. Lisa Diedrich, TU Berlin

Lisa Diedrich, Professor of Landscape Architecture at the Technical University of Berlin, currently directs the ÉLAN Chair, ‘Designing Landscapes in the Anthropocene’. Her career has taken her from professional practice to academia across Europe, Australia and Latin America. Her research and teaching focus on fostering a new understanding of design and designerly fieldwork methodologies, reflective practice and planetary landscapes. She is the editor-in-chief of the triennial book series Landscape Architecture Europe and the co-editor-in-chief of ‘scape international magazine for landscape architecture and urbanism.

Bjørn Ginman, SLA

Bjørn Ginman is the Senior Lead Designer at SLA's head office in Copenhagen. Since 2013 Ginman has worked in the studio, first 9 years as a Team Leader and responsible for Danish and Nordic projects in Norway, Sweden and Finland. Now he concentrates on developing and working with SLA’s nature-based design and method. In addition, Ginman is closely connected to SLA’s office in Oslo and with the continued development of SLA's design approach there as well. Ginman studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' School of Architecture in Copenhagen and still teaches there to this day.

Bjørn Ginman is half Finnish and very interested in how people in Finland and the rest of the Nordic region view nature. He has a lifelong interest in birds and thereby an interest in how nature works.
